A power inverter converts DC power or direct current to standard AC power or alternating current, which allows you to run AC electrical equipment off your vehicle’s battery for mobile applications, emergencies or simple convenience.
Power inverters are small rectangular devices that have a trailing wire with a jack that plugs directly into the cigarette lighter on the dashboard. They might also come with jumper-like cables for connecting directly to a battery. The device normally has one or two outlets for standard electrical cords. Your laptop, small-screen television, video game player or portable DVD theater are all examples of devices that will get you through a long ride, assuming you’re not the one driving!
Power inverters are great for camping at parks that do not provide electricity. The toaster, blender, and boom box can all still be used. On your boat you can plug in the digital movie camera to capture those great water-skiing videos you might have missed after the camera’s battery ran low!
In a utility outage a power inverter can be used for emergency electricity. Just run an extension cord from your car into the house, or if you have a charged spare battery you can connect the power inverter directly. Plug in a radio to tune into important alerts, run essential medical equipment, lights, or whatever else you need that falls within the inverter’s power limits.

The voltages listed here are the “nominal” figures reported to be in use at most residential or commercial sites in the country or area named. Most electrical power systems are prone to slight variations in voltage due to demand or other factors. Generally, this difference is inconsequential, as most appliances are built to tolerate current a certain percentage above or below the rated voltage. However, severe variations in current can damage electrical equipment.

You use them daily on your laptop computer; you use them on your mobile phone, and even on your printer and other networking devices. But what exactly are they and why do you need them?

Why can’t I just plug my laptop directly to the wall outlet? Why does it have to have this extra device that I keep dragging along with it? If you’ve inquired these questions, chances are you do not really understand the importance of AC adapters.

An AC adapter is a type of power supply. It is a device that provides power to another device, but why the redundancy?

Your DC device-your laptop, your cellular phone-needs an AC adapter because it operates on direct current. Think of DC as a different “type” of electricity. DC is usually related with low-voltage devices. Remember, the electricity in your home is 120 volts AC (if you live in the U.S.A. and most other countries). Your microwave oven, your television, and your air conditioner all need 120 volts to operate. Your laptop only needs 20 volts or less.

In this sense, an AC adapter is a power supply that converts one form of electricity to another. Therefore, we can safely say that such is also a power converter.

DC devices, or things that run on direct current, are usually those that use batteries for power. Because DC devices can run independently with the use of batteries, it is the choice of electricity for mobile applications-even your car runs on DC.

Also, because of the nature of DC (current only runs in one direction), a low-voltage DC device can have a battery, charge it, and provide power to the device all in one circuitry (which all starts from the adapter). So in this sense, an AC adapter is also a charger.

Other adapters take advantage of the fact that they are first in the circuitry by providing some sort of surge protection. If something unexpected happens to your AC electricity, the adapter breaks the current before it destroys your precious device, which means they can also function as surge protectors.

So there you have it. An AC adapter is a lot of things-a power supply, a power converter, and it can also be a charger and a surge protector. It is that important. So do not take your adapter for granted because your device greatly depends on it.

Since the frequent change of laptop, and LCD’s fast development inch by inch, the power adapter of laptop is move on stage by stage, even reaching more than 100W or so, almost equals a small desktop computer power supply! Like these laptop AC adapters, it’s common ones that the watt is from 60 to 100 W.While putting your hand on it, you may be worried that will it not fire? Compaq, IBM, such big companies have brought back their power adapter due to it may have the power design flaws, and lead to fire!

In fact, as long as the temperature of power adapter is not higher than the designed temperature, in another word, the temperature belongs to the normal range; the power adapter generally is safe! As these laptop AC adapters, it has the same problem. So, why are the power heated? What temperature range is in the normal scope? Switching power conversion efficiency can only reach about 75% -90% at present. The answer is here. Switching power efficiency is high enough, and it is still difficult to find a better conversion, Some energy lost during voltage conversion, which in addition to a small part of the loss is in the form of waves, the majority are distributed by way of heat. Higher of power, more loss of energy also more amount of heat being distributed. That is why some desktop power supply to add a fan for cooling reasons.

Therefore, while designing and producing Laptop Power adapter, It is very important to select the components that can withstand high temperature. Of course, the temperature must be controlled in the range that application environment permits. First, the conversion efficiency should be designed to be as high as possible, and secondly, components and parts of low pressure and low loss should be adopted. The third is design good heat output system. Heat exchanging area should be as large as possible. For example, generally more than 100W should have metal perforated casing, or be with cooling fan.

Power Adapter is an electronic device that produces a direct current from the mains with an Alternating Current (AC). Though a power supply it is popularly known as an AC Power Adapter or AC Adapter. Laptops along with most other portable devices use Direct Current, this also applies to rechargeable batteries which power laptops. Direct Current has a constant flow of electric charge in one direction and flows from low to high potential. Connecting a laptop to AC is unsuitable and dangerous due to the varying magnitude and direction of the current, which can cause an internal component to fail and even result in fire.

The AC Adapter carries through the following steps to produce the correct current and voltage to power your laptop or charge your laptop battery:

* Changes the mains voltage to a lower voltage level

* Converts the AC voltage to a DC voltage by a process called rectification

* Smooths out any voltage ripple

* Converts the voltage to the required voltage to power the laptop

The other well-known name for an AC Power Adapter is battery charger or laptop battery charger. This is an important device providing you with laptop mobility and frees you of restriction from using the power cord.

For motor vehicles and their components, noise and exhaust gas, must meet the requirements of EEC Directives and the Economic Commission of Europe Regulation (ECE Regulation). After the products complying with the certification requirements, an eligible certificate will be issued to ensure the safety of driving and the requirements of environment protection. According to the requirement of EU Directive 2004/104/EC, all electrical and electronic products used in motor vehicles sold in the EU market must be tested and certified to access the e-Mark and attached with “e” mark. Then the customs in each EU country will agree to proceed and allow these products entering into the local market.
